Emergency Fund - Protect our Planet

Presently, environmental protections are undergoing severe attacks, the likes of which we have not encountered before. Key offices and agencies are facing debilitating changes, and federal grants – vital lifeblood of many important initiatives – have been frozen indefinitely.

• The Office of Environmental Justice within the Department of Justice has been effectively disbanded.
• The Environmental Protection Agency is facing massive alterations; 125 of its employees have been placed on mandatory leave with over 1,000 receiving notice of potential termination.
• There is even a push to commercialize and dramatically downsize the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, putting the future of climate science, and critical weather communications, at risk.

This assault on environmental stewardship has left us all alarmed. Yet, it has also highlighted the importance of ensuring continuity in the critical work of Earth Island and the 75+ project network. As federal services diminish, it is even more incumbent on the nonprofit sector to fill the gaps.

In response, we are working to create an emergency fund to protect Earth Island and enhance our ability to support our projects through this crisis – from legal support, to compliance training, direct funding, data security, and more. We must be prepared for this moment. And with your help, we can be.
