Youth Activists are Leading the Way to Sustainable Schools

Muskan Walia and Angelina Xu, two young environmental leaders who were recently recognized for their accomplishments by the 2023 Brower Youth Awards, join Terra Verde host Fiona McLeod to discuss their work organizing their schools’ transition to clean energy and zero food waste. Both leaders’ work has been instrumental in transforming how their schools, counties, and states approach critical environmental issues — and they are now helping other students do the same.

Fiona McLeod writes and reports on the intersection of environmental and social justice, with a focus on indigenous-led efforts to protect sacred land and waters. Fiona has a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University, where she concentrated on contemporary indigenous politics and legal studies.
