The SIRGE Coalition

The SIRGE Coalition (Securing Indigenous Peoples’ Rights in the Green Economy) is an Indigenous-led initiative advancing Indigenous Peoples’ rights and Self-determination in the energy transition, with a particular focus on transition mineral supply chains. The Coalition brings together Batani Foundation, Cultural Survival, Earthworks, Tallgrass Institute, Voices (formerly Society for Threatened Peoples) and International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA).

Our work seeks systemic change that centers Indigenous Peoples’ rights and environmental justice in the global transition to a green economy. We pursue this by advocating for the operationalization of the right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), influencing corporate, investor and government policy, supporting Indigenous-led advocacy, and providing direct financial support to communities. Our strategies are organized through six collaborative workstreams: Support to Communities, Policy Advocacy, Corporate Engagement and Advocacy, Research Priorities, Communications and Fundraising.
