The CBREP used this grant to restore habitat for native wildlife at the Newport Valley project site at Upper Newport Bay, while creating an avenue for community involvement and education. The project mobilized 210 public volunteers, local schools, community groups, and agencies who contributed more than 650 hours of work to conduct invasive species eradication, native seed collection, propagation, and planting to enhance riparian and coastal sage scrub habitat. In all, 10,000 pounds of non-native plants were removed, and 148 native plants were planted!
