European Dolphin Safe Monitoring Organisation
The European Dolphin Safe Monitoring Organisation (E.D.S.M.0.) was formed in London in October 1999 and incorporated as a company limited by guarantee.

The objects of the E.D.S.M.O. are:

  • To act as a European body to represent, protect and promote the Dolphin Safe International Monitoring Program provided by Earth Island Institute.

  • To safeguard the description 'Dolphin-Safe tuna' which are tuna products that are caught without setting nets on dolphins or whales, without dolphin or whale mortality or serious injury, or by use of high seas driftnets.

  • To issue a licence to participating companies authorising them to use the 'Dolphin Safe' logo, a European Union trade mark registered by Earth Island Institute and setting forth all requirements for any such use.

  • To administrate, oversee, monitor and promote the agreement in respect of the Dolphin Safe International Monitoring Program with Importers, Distributors, Institutions, Manufacturers and Multiple Retailers of products containing tuna fish.
