Earth Island Institute is primarily Macintosh-based, although we also use Windows 95/98-based PCs for our database and accounting systems.

Usable Storage Space Needed!

Bay Area Wilderness Training needs some space to store its growing supply of sleeping bags, tents and backpacks that are available to its clients -- Bay Area Youth Workers! Help us to help them get youth outdoors. Notes: The space must be available for entry at least once a week. The gear will see less use this winter but will pick up in spring. The more shelving the better. Thanks!

The Borneo Project
Help Us with the following items!

To keep pace with logging companies, government lawyers and so on, our partners in Borneo need advanced tools to work efficiently. They use GPS units to map village boundaries, computers to perpare legal cases, and much more. There is a great need to give our partners in Borneo the following:

  • GPS units (Garmin 12XL, Trimble GeoExplorer)
  • Survey-quality compasses
  • 2 PC notebooks (Windows 2000 or higher for compatibility with GIS software)
  • Palm pilots or Pocket PCs (to download map data from GPS in the field)
  • Cameras (digital especially useful)
  • Video cameras (PAL compatibility is essential)
  • Hand tools
In addition, our office in Berkeley could use the following:
