Plans have not been completely finalized as of yet for the summer of 2005.
Volunteers will be asked to work at one or more varied sites this coming summer.
Our vision is to continue building the extensions to trails that were begun
over the last few years. Here is a tentative list of the 29 GBT projects planned
for the summer of 2005. They are shown alphabetically (according to the name
of the work site) below:
Angarsk
Project Name
Trail building on Bolshoi Island in the nature park of Angarsk
Project Dates
This project will run throughout the summer
Project Area
Angarsk town, Bolshoi Island
Work Proposed
The project will take place on Bolshoi island where it is planned to carry out routine maintenance on parts of the trail built in 2004, including: lengthening the trail to 2km, completing it to international standards and clearing all of the trail around the island of fallen trees brought down during the 2004 hurricane. It is planned to mark and complete a new trail route in areas where the old trail contributes to shore-line erosion as it is too close to the cliff edge and has become unsafe with cracks and fissures appearing. It is also planned to construct a bridge over the channel, which connects the small lake to the river, and to build walkways over boggy areas of the trail as well as reinforcing the trail walls where necessary.
Volunteer accommodation
Volunteers will live with families in Angarsk travelling to the project work area daily by canoe.
Entertainment and excursions
During afternoon breaks volunteers will be able to ride in the canoes and on certain weekends there will be a one day 'water trail' excursion around the island in canoes. For those who wish there will be an excursion to Emelyanihka valley to meet and socialise with volunteers from a different GBT project.

There are existing trails on all proposed roots, all in need of clearing and marking.
Volunteer accommodation
Sleeping in tents.
Entertainment and excursions
The remoteness and inaccessibility of the area and the absence of any settlements or trading points means that the group will have to organize its own entertainment. The reserve may provide the use of a banya and an excursion in the reserve to introduce volunteers to its wildlife.
There will be the opportunity for fishing in Lake Baikal (volunteers are welcome to bring their own fishing-rods, so long as it is small and easy to carry).
