Completed in 1963 Glen Canyon Dam flooded 187 miles of the Colorado River in Utah and Arizona. The sacrifice of Glen Canyon and the environmental damage to the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River were very personal to David, who as Executive Director of the Sierra Club failed to stop the Dam's construction. The Glen Canyon
Institute (www.glencanyon.org), and others International Rivers Network (IRN.org), and Glen Canyon Action Network (drainit.org) have dedicated their efforts to restoring the Colorado River through Glen Canyon.
