David co-founded this organization with the United Steelworkers of America at a bar in March 1999 to unite labor unions and the environmental movement toward a shared goal of creating a just and sustainable society. Later that year, the Alliance became a key player in the historic citizen protests that shut down the World Trade Organization ministerial in Seattle. Of the Alliance, David said, "It makes it possible for me to dream again."
